Award win for Morris Site Machinery’s Solar Lighting Towers

The manufacturer and distributor of the UK’s first solar-powered lighting tower is celebrating after securing an industry accolade for its ongoing commitment to innovation.

Morris Site Machinery’s eco-efficient SMC Solar-2 lighting has secured the Innovation Award at The Speedy Suppliers Awards 2015, which is dedicated to celebrating innovation by major manufacturing and supply companies across the country.

The UK’s first solar-powered lighting tower, the SMC Solar-2 was recognised by the judges for its environmental credentials, which include 100% fuel savings, zero carbon and noise emissions, and minimal service requirements. The lighting tower, which took three years of research and development to produce, is an industry first, and whilst the product itself is completely eco-efficient, the production and manufacture also use sustainable practices.

Phil Winnington, Managing Director of Morris Site Machinery, explained: “We are absolutely delighted to be recognised by Speedy for the SMC Solar-2 and proud to be leading the way in innovation.

“Working with our key customers and suppliers, we developed the tower to meet the ever-changing needs of the market, and the product is a testament to our continuous investment to develop world-class products, which ultimately enable our customers to always stay one step ahead.”

In addition to its sustainable qualities, the tower light can achieve an indefinite run status, subject to the quality of daylight and based on 8-10 hours of operation within 24 hours. Since the lighting tower was launched, it has received positive feedback from British and international markets, with interest from industries such as film and television, security and construction.

Phil continued: “Many eco-products compromise reliability and lifespan, but this is absolutely not the case with the SMC Solar-2, which not only operates eight times longer than hybrid models but can generate carbon savings of up to 3,000kg per year, equating to approximately £7,400 in maintenance and fuel costs.

“With more suppliers and contractors looking to improve their environmental impact and many contracts calling for greener practices, the Solar-2 means customers can rest assured the product

meets industry demand for a truly sustainable and low maintenance tower, with the same great quality they’ve come to expect.”
