Our international Business Director Phil Winnington is going the extra mile on Wednesday 19th July as he starts his 5-A-Day running challenge in aid of charity.
Phil will be running 5 x 5K’s over five consecutive days, which means he will have racked up a total of 25K by the time he crosses the finish line.
Phil is hoping to raise £555.55 on his fundraising page in aid of Mind the Mental Health charity, a cause very close to his heart. Talking about the challenge Phil said: “I am running in memory of my dear friend Julia who left us back in 2013. I wanted to make sure I did something positive and I didn’t think I would be able to complete a half Marathon, so instead, opted for this mad challenge of running 5K on 5 consecutive days.”
“Not only does 5k a day suit my running capabilities, but it’s also important to recognise that mental illness isn’t just a one-day-thing, it lives with individuals day after day. By raising money for Mind – the leading mental health charity in England and Wales – we can support their valuable work as they provide advice, reassurance and support to empower anyone who may be experiencing mental health problems.”
Phil will begin his challenge in the Quarry Park in Shrewsbury, just a short walk from Morris and Co. headquarters at 1 pm on Wednesday 19th. Run two will start the following day at the home of Morris Site Machinery in Four Ashes at 1 pm, where he will be cheered on by the team in Wolverhampton.
The halfway point will see him run with Julia’s family around the pitch at Crewe Alexander Football Club at 1 pm, where supporters are encouraged to cheer the group on from the stands. Run four will see Phil run from Mossley in Congleton to Newbold Astbury in Cheshire at 12 pm and the final leg of his 5K challenge will see him run from Tudweiliog to Edern, Gwynedd in North Wales at 3 pm.
Each day is represented by a fruit to match the 5-A-Day theme, and Phil will have a new running shirt showcasing each fruit with each 5K attempt.
If you would like to join Phil on one of his runs, please contact us and we can send you a running pack with everything you need.
